Serving Up Excellence: The Volleyball Journal

Hey Jaguar Athletes!

Volleyball season is officially here! With several new, promising, lady Jaguars and an enthusiastic coach, there's no doubt this year's volleyball season will be a spiking one.

Coach Thompson

Coach Thompson

At IDEA Judson, there are both middle school and high school volleyball teams. However, in this blog I'll be focusing on the high school team, coached by the fabulous Mrs. Thompson.

In a short interview with Coach Thompson, she expressed her enthusiasm for the new season:

"Actually I am excited about the new season. I think the girls that are coming in are young, we only have two seniors this year vs the six we had last year...that gives us some wiggle room to embed in them what's needed for success in this season."

-Ms Thompson

However, she acknowledges some concerns she has but is confident she will be able to address them.

"Lots of females, different attitudes...females can be catty. Not too much of a concern, but [we're]definitely working on making sure that we work as a team and making sure they understand it's going to take all of us." -Ms Thompson

With that being said, the introduction of the new lady jaguars still excites her.

"I am, again, excited about the new team. Yesterday actually we had practice, putting them together and watching them play, and they're working together. I think we have a pretty good team. I don't see a lot of cattiness so I'm excited"

Although the first game was so soon, meaning the team didn't have enough time to thoroughly develop a strategy or work on specifics, she still had high hopes for their first game.

"Yesterday practice went a lot better than I thought it was going to go so I do have some confidence. I know this is going to give us an opportunity to work out the kinks, so I'm confident we'll definitely be able to see what kinks need to be worked out."

Little did she know, her new team was going to pleasantly surprise her, by playing as a team and winning their first game.

Lady Jaguars

However, a great coach isn't great without great players...Enter, our Lady Jaguars!

Lady Jags celebrating

This year the team consists of 10 total players, of which 2 are seniors, 4 are sophomores, and 4 are freshmen. 4 are returning and 6 are new players.

The team captain is Zoe Alvarado (Senior) and the two team managers are Maryah Walker (Senior) and Melanie Gomez (Senior).

September 6th, 2023 marks the date of the first high school volleyball game of the season. Our Lady Jaguars faced off against IDEA Ingram Hills (the "Rams") and, marvelously, took the victory (3-1); starting off the season with great confidence and a positive outlook.

As our Lady Jaguars progress through the season, there will undoubtedly be great growth among the individuals but also amongst the team as a whole. However, it's important for us to go out and show out our support for our great volleyball team in their games to motivate them and reassure them.

Their game schedule is:

  • Sept 13th 6:00pm @IDEA Walzem (Away game)

  • Sept 15th 5:00pm @Lackland (Away game)

  • Sept 20 6:30pm @IDEA Judson (Home game)

  • Sept 22 7:00pm @Somerset (Away game)

  • Sept 25 6:30pm @George Gervin (Away game)

  • Sept 27 5:30pm @IDEA Judson (Home game)

Come out and show out your support!
