The "National Honors Society" (NHS) is a highly prestigious national organization in the United States offered at IDEA Judson. Membership in this organization is a privilege and is, for that reason, a great extracurricular to add to your resume. However, there is an application process and is only open to a select few students who meet the requirements.
So, how can you get in?
To be inducted in the NHS you must be in at least 10th grade and have a minimum unweighted GPA of 3.6. The application will be sent to prospective members meeting these requirements in the following week. Once you have received the application you will fill out a series of further qualifications for membership based on the four pillars of the NHS.
1. Scholarship: Meeting the requirement to have a GPA (unweighted)of 3.6.
2. Service: Completing hours in community service, contributions to the community both in and out of school completed without compensation.
3. Leadership: Students displaying resourcefulness, problem solving skills and idea contributors to organizations/activities.
4. Character: Showing that the student is cooperative, honest, reliable, respectful and overall, has a good disciplinary record.
In the application you will be able to show the pillars in detail so make sure to be as specific as possible!
The benefits of being in NHS

By being in the NHS you are given access to apply for the NHS Scholarship, exclusive community service opportunities on-campus and off-campus. Members are also given the opportunity to participate in leadership development events. NHS memberships shows academic and service commitments through a nationally known and recognized society, which can strengthen your college applications. On top of that you will be introduced to the greater aspects of the school community and your contribution to a great school year.

Our first meeting

(Noah Flores-Secretary, Lillian Mendez-Vice President, Zitlali Garcia-President, Jay Hernandez-Treasurer, Eva Magdaleno-Historian)
NHS held their first meeting of the year August 30th. The agenda consisted primarily of
welcoming everybody back and voting for the new NHS council. Current members voted for Zitlali Garcia as President, Lillian Mendez as Vice-President, Noah Flores as Secretary, Jay Hernandez as Treasurer, and Eva Magdaleno as Historian. We also discussed incoming members (YOU!) and when they will be inducted.
Throughout the year, NHS will have meetings to organize and coordinate events for the community which are also exclusive community service opportunities for NHS members.
I hope this answered all your questions, but if you still have any, feel free to reach out to us through our Instagram @the_jag_journalists or through email at mariana.jimenez@ideapublicschools.org
